Frequently Asked Chiropractic Questions

Please feel free to call or email us your questions if we have not answered them already.

What is the popping noise that happens during an adjustment?

Cavitation

During the adjustment, often the joint will release oxygen, nitrogen and carbon dioxide gasses just the same way a pop noise happens when you uncork a champagne bottle or you "crack" your own knuckles. Not every adjustment will produce an audible noise.  This varies depending on the area adjusted, the technique chosen and the level of gas built up in that joint.

Why do I need chiropractic care if I am pain free and do not have anything bothering me?

Think ...Toothbrush

Do you wait until your teeth hurt to brush them? Hopefully the answer is no. Just as we need regular check ups at the dentist, our nervous systems need a check up as well. Aligning the spine allows the nervous system and therefore entire body to function, grow and adapt at its very best.

How often do I need to be adjusted?

Each Individual is Different

Wellness patients are typically adjusted every 7-10 days. This is because when we have micro traumas in our daily lives, they can build up muscle spasm, inflammation and scar tissue and the cycle repeats itself every 7-10 days. Micro traumas can include poor posture on a daily basis or repetitive motions at home or work. If there are specific things that need to be addressed beyond maintenance care, more frequent visits are usually required in the beginning of care to retrain the muscles and calm down the inflammation. After reaching this point, adjustments usually require less frequency until wellness care is reached.

Why do some people report soreness after an adjustment?

Muscular response

Muscles have really good memory.  Just like going to the gym for the first few visits, the muscles are usually sore form the new change happening. The muscles will try to revert back to the original position until they are retrained through repetition and then maintenance. Proper water intake is also important.

What is the proper amount of water someone actually needs?

1/2 the body weight in OZs

Dehydration is very common for all ages. If you notice your lips are dry, or If you are thirsty, you have been dehydrated longer than you think. Adjustments are also better received when patients drink plenty of water. The muscles will experience less spasm and quicker recovery as well.

I fell last week but my sore hip will eventually heal and "work itself out right" ?

Think ...MECHANIC

When we get into minor fender benders or hit an occasional curb and do not get the frame checked on our vehicle what happens over time? The car will start to fall apart from continuing to be driven on a bent frame causing continued future trips to the part store and more time and money in the long run from neglecting the maintenance in the first place. Our spines need to be aligned just like the frame of a car to achieve the most amount of miles possible.
